Fireworks light up the sky behind the Tower of the Americas to ring in the new year in Downtown San Antonio on Saturday Jan. 1, 2023.received more than 1,000 calls related to fireworks between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
In total, San Antonio police fielded 1,056 calls reporting fireworks, which have become somewhat of a tradition when the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve. Despite the numerous calls, San Antonio police rarely issue citations. Only one was given on New Year's Eve 2020, and none in 2019.
