A San Jose man briefly escaped custody Thursday after he managed to free himself from a metal constraint after his arrest in San Mateo County.
SAN MATEO COUNTY — After his Thursday arrest on suspicion of burglary, a San Jose man was placed into a metal ankle constraint upon his arrival to the Hall of Justice in Redwood City for questioning while in custody.
A short time later, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said, the 29-year-old freed himself from the constraint and escaped custody, spurring a nearly two-hour long search. The sheriff’s office said in a news release Friday that detectives arrested the man around 5:30 p.m. Thursday on a warrant issued for an alleged burglary. The man, who was suspected to be involved in several other burglary cases, was taken to the Hall of Justice for questioning when he managed to escape.A search was immediately ordered and the sheriff’s office shared the man’s description with neighboring agencies. He was then found and taken back into custody in Menlo Park.
