A San Jose State spokesperson said to The Examiner that students at 10:28 a.m. were told to avoid the area and police were responding to reports of an armed person inside.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, which also serves as a public library for the city, was"closed until further notice" on Wednesday morning.

Mike Carroll, the campus police chief, told KTVU there was "no indication" the incident was considered an active shooter situation. The San Jose Police Department didn't respond to The Examiner's request for comment prior to publication on Wednesday morning. A San Jose State University spokesperson directed The Examiner's inquiry to other members of the campus' media relations team.
