The man allegedly beat the woman with a belt and tried to rape and strangle her.
A man was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly attacking his girlfriend — beating her with a belt and attempting to rape and strangle her, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. to a report of a physical altercation at a home on the 400 block of 4th Avenue in an unincorporated area of the county. They found a woman with injuries to her neck, and eventually located the suspect in the area. Both told deputies at the scene that they were in a dating relationship with each other, authorities said.
The man, a 35-year-old Redwood City resident, had allegedly used his hands to hit the woman’s head and beat her with a belt. At some point, authorities said, he attempted to rape the woman; he also climbed on top of the victim in an attempt to strangle her.
