Cory Sandhagen started fast and avoided danger against Marlon Vera, while Holly Holm won the co-main event and local CJ Vergara earned fight of the night.

On the strength of a dominant opening two rounds, Sandhagen proved himself right, recording a split decision 50-45, 49-46, 47-48 win over Vera in the main event of a UFC Fight Night show Saturday in front of 16,076 fans at the sold-out AT&T Center. UFC president Dana White said Sandhagen “literally fought the perfect fight” and might have won all five rounds.
Vera landed a powerful two-punch combo in the middle of the third round to claim a foothold for the first time in the fight, but Sandhagen found plenty of answers, largely evening out the round. Holm, the 41-year-old former bantamweight champion, spent most of the fight in a mounted position, scoring takedowns in each round and following up with punches, elbows and shoulder strikes.
