Ozone is a harmful, smog-like substance that comes from nitrogen dioxide and volatile organic compounds produced by construction, some industries and vehicles, as well as heat and sunlight.SAN ANTONIO — Saturday is an ozone action day for the San Antonio area, according to the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality. It is the 13th day this year and fourth day this week with possibly harmful levels of ozone pollution.
Older folks, young children and those with respiratory conditions — such as bronchitis, emphysema or asthma — are more vulnerable to the pollution’s effects. They should stay indoors or limit outside activity if possible. Ozone is a harmful, smog-like substance that comes from nitrogen dioxide and volatile organic compounds produced by construction, some industries and vehicles, as well as heat and sunlight.The TCEQ urges residents to prevent ozone pollution by sharing rides, riding bicycles and avoiding drive-through lanes or other reasons to idle vehicle engines. Residents should refuel cars and trucks after 6 p.m. and set their thermostats 2 to 3 degrees higher from 2 to 7 p.m.
Ozone conditions will be moderate Sunday and Monday, according to the TCEQ. Residents can monitor ozone levels on the TCEQ’s website .
