The new "Saved by the Bell" comedy will be headed by "30 Rock" writer and "Great News" series creator Tracey Wigfield. It will explore what happens when California Governor Zac Morris proposes students from low-income schools be sent to wealthier schools, including his alma mater Bayside High.
The original sitcom ran Saturday mornings on NBC from 1989 to 1993 and included Dustin Diamond , Tiffani-Amber Thiessen and Lark Voorhies as cast members. The show was a massive hit with a spin-off "Saved by the Bell: The College Years" running for one season beginning in 1993.Meanwhile, the "Punky Brewster" re-imagining will focus on Frye as a single mother-of-three who "meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self".
The Peacock service will launch in April 2020 and include a reboot of "Battlestar: Galactica" from "Mr. Robot" creator Sam Esmail as well as original programming.
