The family of Mona Rodriguez is calling for criminal charges against the unnamed Long Beach United School District officer.

, a group of young people were in an altercation in a parking lot close to Millikan High School, and a Long Beach Unified School District safety officer pulled into the lot to investigate. When some of the people tried to drive off in a sedan, the school safety officer fired at the car, shooting Rodriguez in the back of the head, according to the family’s attorney. Video of the incident was captured and posted to social media.

Rodriguez is the mother of a five-month-old boy. The most recent reporting said she was likely to be taken off life support on the afternoon of September 30, despiteIn the wake of the shooting, Rodriguez’s boyfriend and family are calling for criminal charges against the school resource officer and, according to their attorney, will file a federal civil rights lawsuit against the officer and school district.

The Long Beach school resource officer has not been publicly named. A spokesperson with the school district told thethat the officer is “on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation” led by the Long Beach Police Department, with the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office conducting its own investigation as well.

“I just want justice for my girl, my baby mama, my love of my life that I can’t get back ever again,” Rodriguez’s boyfriend Rafeul Chowdhuryhas reached out to the school district and police department for comment.
