Once known for binge drinking and brawls, Surfers Paradise schoolies has become an increasingly mellow event.
Authorities have given school leavers an 'A plus' for good behaviour as the first week of celebrations wraps up on the Gold Coast .
"The schoolies of 15 or 20 years ago when I used to come out here, it was just everyone drinking, fighting and carrying on — idiots, lunatics," he said.Year 12 graduates are swapping booze for juice as they shun a week-long binge on the Gold Coast. In the first five days, 50 partygoers used the free pill testing service — run by Loop Australia — to test 24 substances.Authorities are now preparing for the arrival of school leavers from New South Wales and Victoria.
