The image from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration has uncovered strong and organised magnetic fields spiraling from the edge of the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A*.

The photo from the Event Horizon Telescope team has shown strong and organised magnetic fields spiralling from the edge of the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* .

Scientists showed the first image of Sgr A*- which is about 27,000 light-years away from Earth- in 2022. They found that while the Milky Way's supermassive black hole is more than a thousand times smaller and less massive than M87's, it looks remarkably similar. To find out, the team decided to study Sgr A* in polarised light.

In the plasma around these black holes, tiny particles spin around magnetic field lines and create a polarisation pattern that's at right angles to the field. This helps astronomers see what's happening in black hole areas in more and more detail and draw their magnetic field lines. Top Trending Stories Today EHT Project Scientist Geoffrey Bower from the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Academia Sinica, Taiwan, said: "Making a polarised image is like opening the book after you have only seen the cover. Because Sgr A* moves around while we try to take its picture, it was difficult to construct even the unpolarised image," He also mentioned that the first image was an average of multiple images due to Sgr A*'s movement.
