Scots animal charity says banning XL Bully dogs is 'not the answer'

The Scottish SPCA believes that more responsibility lies with owners to control these animals.

Despite the dogs being responsible for half of all fatal attacks in the UK over the last three years and repeated calls for them to be banned the Scottish SPCA says this is not the correct solution.

The XL Bully grasped it in his jaw and shook it violently, leaving it with puncture wounds to the kidney from which it later died. One of the dogs was ordered to be destroyed by a court after it attacked two children, aged three and 10, in West Lothian. She underwent three hours of surgery at the hospital to address two blood clots and clean out her painful wounds, and will be left with huge scars from the deep gouges in her skin sustained during the alleged attack.

"As there is no Kennel Club standard this also means many people could be breeding these dogs with no regard for health or temperament. Dogs bred and raised in low-welfare environments are more prone to both health and behavioural issues than those from reputable breeders.
