Scots dog with rare condition needs to wear goggles outside to protect him from sunlight
A dog with a rare eye condition that almost left him blind is now able to enjoy the great outdoors thanks to specially adapted goggles.
Chloe, 28, took Gus to the vets near her home in Oban with husband Joe the following day and was devastated to be told his incurable condition could severely affect the animal's social life. "He's not an indoor dog so when we were told he couldn't go outside while the sun was out was just going to change our entire lives."We'd never heard of Pannus so I went home and researched everything I could about the condition."
The mum-of-one, who is a medical lab technician, said: "He is a family member so getting rid of him was never going to be an option so we had to figure something out. Chloe added: "Naturally, Gus attracts a lot of attention while wearing his glasses and we have to explain to people that he has them for medical reasons.Gus has also been prescribed steroidal drops which help to bring down the lesions in his eye.
Chloe added: "The Pannus lesions grow blood vessels and they form a sort of blister. In serious cases it has to be surgically removed. So It's important for people to be aware of the signs."
