Record View says we can’t afford the fire service to become left so stretched that safety is compromised after the recent blaze at the Station Hotel in Ayr.
The Station Hotel in Ayr, which went up in flames on Monday evening, was once the centrepiece of the historic seaside town. The structure was once hailed for its Victorian grandeur but has been little more than a derelict eyesore for years.
But local firefighters from Ayr Fire Station had to wait 20 minutes for a high-reach vehicle to arrive from neighbouring Kilmarnock. A high-reach vehicle was previously based in the town but the Fire Brigades Union has claimed it was removed due to budget cutbacks. It is unacceptable that towns and villages across a huge swathe of Scotland should be left with inadequate or no cover due to firefighters attending one blaze. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries at the former hotel fire in Ayr.
