A gangland shooting victim has walked free after a "nasty" assault on his partner. Marc McDermott survived being shot in the back and backside while an innocent bystander was injured and her dog was killed.

An innocent 52-year-old dog walker suffered a hand injury and her pet Maltichon dog, Henry, was killed by a stray bullet. Sources at the time said the shooting was thought to be linked to an underworld feud. She agreed with Peter Malone, defending, that her relationship with McDermott had been "toxic", adding: "It was horrible."

He must pay Ms Fraser £500 compensation and stay away from her for nine months under a non-harassment order. The sheriff told him: "You have a pretty bad record that includes two previous domestic convictions involving Ms Fraser.
