Holidaymaker Ian Mackellar was charged after he complained about the noise from a Hogmanay party.
A grandad charged in Dubai for telling his neighbour to turn their music down has told how he feared being jailed for two years.But because he had entered the gates of the property, it meant he had broken strict trespass laws and was arrested when the residents called the police.
Ian said cops first told him they expected the complaint to be withdrawn by the neighbour who later refused to do so.Top news stories today Ian said: “My daughter had sent her neighbour a few messages on WhatsApp wishing her Happy New Year and asking her to turn the music down but they didn’t. It got louder.“I walked around and asked politely for them to turn down the music but about a dozen people rushed me. They were pushing me and the baby.
“My daughter wanted to call the police but I said no and it would all blow over. Relieved Ian said: “The policeman told me if I’d been younger I’d have been sent to a jail cell where I’d have sat until the case was dealt with but due to my age they let me stay with my daughter.
