Charly Sharp believes she would have ended up dead at the hands of Christopher McGowan had it not been for the advice of her mum.
The ex-partner of a murderer who killed his new girlfriend has revealed how she escaped his evil clutches.
Speaking at her home in Stirling, she added: “Over the course of our relationship he pushed me, choked me, hit me and spat in my face. The murder of Claire, 28, sparked outrage after it was revealed during his trial that he’d been given bail to live at her home in Stirling with her young son while facing charges of dangerous driving a few weeks before the attack.
Four of the five bail orders in force against McGowan at the time of the murder were granted in little more than two months before the killing. “In 2019 he was bailed to my address and it was the only reason he got out was because he said we were going to make the family work.“His name should have been ‘Christopher bail McGowan’ as despite being in and out of court all his life, he was given chance after chance and in the end was left free to kill Claire.
Charly said: “We started going out when I was 14 and at 16 I moved in with him straight away. He was nice at first but then became very controlling and jealous.“Even after we split up, in 2019 he accused me of going with his cousin.“I called the police and they told me there was no evidence and they couldn’t do anything.
