Rachael Hadjitofi was hit by a speedboat while swimming in the sea in Cyprus.
A Scots woman has opened up on a horror speedboat accident which she said was like a 'scene from jaws'.
Before the horror unfolded, she had planned to move to Edinburgh from Aberdeen on her return home to the UK, but her life plans were turned 'upside down' following the incident. She recalled the horror: "I remember thinking, I'm going to die and I was angry as I hadn't got to do all the things I wanted to in my life."
"It's been a long six years. There have been lots of ups and down, highs and lows. I wanted justice for the person who did this and set an example so we took the driver to court which finally concluded in December" she told Edinburgh Live.Despite Rachael's elation at the time, she admitted that in January, she felt 'incredibly low', but soon regained her focus by delving into a new challenge.
"The swim is giving me an amazing focus and it's great knowing it's for a great charity that will help others like me who have gone through a traumatic incident. I knew it had to be a proper challenge and the most traumatic thing that happened to me was in the sea - so it has to be a swim in the sea."
