Adam Shafie, then 19, was riding his bike when it smashed into a bollard - leaving him paralysed from the waist down.

A young Scots man has been left paralysed from the chest down after breaking his neck in a freak motorbike accident.

But, against all the odds, inspiring Adam, now 20, has allowed the experience to make him stronger and has even found a new interest in sports. "It was heartbreaking, he was in the ICU as he couldn’t cope with breathing on his own and then he had an operation on his spine to fix the broken bones but unfortunately the damage was done and we were told he had a 3 percent chance of walking again.

"Adam was devastated when he found out what the extent of his injuries were and he was very low for a while as you would expect but now he just gets on with it. Obviously he still has days when it still gets to him but that is to be expected."
