Prime Minister Scott Morrison has invoked the shutdown of Anzac Day memorials due to coronavirus as he urged Australians to show respect and not attend protests against police brutality this weekend.
She said approval for the event was granted on the understanding it would be a small gathering.
Organisers of events in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra have urged attendees to maintain 1.5-metre social distancing, wear masks, and use hand sanitiser while at the rally. Heated protests have spread across the world following the death of black man George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis on 25 May.
Testing for coronavirus is now widely available across Australia. If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, arrange a test by calling your doctor or contact the Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.
