Prime Minister Scott Morrison is ready to call the federal election after days of campaigning in key marginal electorates on local policies aimed at curbing a national swing to Labor.

The appointments and the public service preparations have increased expectations Mr Morrison could call the election as soon as Thursday morning.Mr Morrison declared the election would be about “how you keep the economy strong and the budget in balance” so the Commonwealth could fund services like health.

“Six years of instability, six years, three prime ministers … enough is enough, time's up, let’s have an election.”
