Born a year and a day apart and having lived similar political lives, come election day, one will be prime minister and the other's political career might be over.
Mr Morrison rose to political prominence when then Opposition leader Tony Abbott tasked him with overseeing Coalition immigration policies.
His pre-political career was spent largely working in the tourism sector both in Australia and New Zealand. Mr Morrison also had a stint as the Liberal Party's NSW state director in the early 2000s.
