“This bill offers the ideal opportunity to start looking at how we can stop images of animal abuse being put on platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Tik Tok, with no comebacks. We’re delighted that an amendment has been proposed that refers to animals.” “Kids are more savvy with tech as well and they can work around things and that can lead them down dark paths towards material that they should not be subjected to. Ultimately we need more scrutiny over the content that’s getting posted and fast action to remove content, as well as putting safeguards in place to stop it getting there in the first place.”
The Online Safety Bill lists categories of damaging content but it’s original draft does not include animal abuse. The Bill currently outlines harms like child sexual abuse and any content including or promoting self-harm. It also aims to tackle online fraud by placing the responsibility with the responsible platforms.
