So far, the Knights have benefited from the unexpected realignment news. Sophomore Chad Warner has emerged as one of the area top quarterbacks, throwing for 770 yards on 41-of-53 passing with nine touchdowns and no interceptions. Steele hosts TAPPS state power Fort Worth Nolan next week before finally opening 27-6A play against New Braunfels at home on Oct. 7.Second-ranked Brennan faces another tough 29-6A test with No. 5 Taft, which is coming off an open date.
Second-ranked Smithson Valley defeated East Central 45-7 last week to improve to 2-1. The Rangers held the Hornets to 149 total yards. Wagner edged San Marcos 42-41 last week for its first victory. Juan’yae Taylor rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries.Johnson delves into District 28-6A play after an open date. The Jaguars improved to 1-1 with a 38-23 victory over O’Connor on Sept. 2.
