“You have to love on him more than anything,” Bradley said. “Those type of moments are very unfortunate, and you don’t wish them on anybody, to go through that. But Mont is such a good person. He dealt with a lot of adversity last year, both personal and getting hurt. He’s one of the most positive people on the team.
On the previous inbounds, the 6-foot-2 Butler quickly threw a bounce pass to Trammell before he could be trapped and the Aztecs worked the ball upcourt until Seiko was fouled. This time he didn’t and got trapped by the 6-7 Black and 6-10 Trevon Brazile, then committed the cardinal sin of putting the ball above his head, where it is more easily dislodged by taller players.
“It’s just the human element,” coach Brian Dutcher said. “That’s the beauty of sports, whether it’s the officiating human element or the players human element. You see it every day in every sport, whether you’re watching the NFL or baseball or anything. As much as we put them in positions to be successful, the kids are going to determine what that success is.
