Reaction from the Everton manager after the clash with Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup
The tactical switch that saw Everton move to five at the back for the trip to Aston Villa was a move designed to test formations that could help Sean Dyche best exploit his squad.

James Garner moved into the middle of the midfield with Amadou Onana and Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma offered support to Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a side that relentlessly pressed and repeatedly forced Villa to retreat toward its own goal. Both of Everton’s goals came as the side forced mistakes through these efforts.
He explained: “I spoke to the group about the mentality of the squad, not just the eleven that is picked, and I was pleased with that because they have got to be adaptable and flexible, which they were, because we only had a couple of days to work on a change of formation.
