A multi-agency search and rescue operation is underway in Australia's second-longest river, the Murrumbidgee, after a man went missing on Australia Day. The man, who was not wearing a lifejacket, fell into the river while riding on a floaty towed by a boat. Despite extensive efforts, the missing man has not yet been found.

The search for a missing man in Australia 's second-longest river, the Murrumbidgee River in New South Wales, has entered its third day. Rescuers began their search on Sunday after the man fell into the river at Darlington Point while riding on a floaty being towed by a boat. Despite the efforts of multiple agencies, including the Murrumbidgee Police District, NSW Ambulance, State Emergency Service (SES) and Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA), the man was not located.

Police confirmed that the missing man was not wearing a lifejacket when he fell into the water. Divers from the police force entered the water on Monday, but the search was unsuccessful. This incident follows the tragic discovery of a 21-year-old man's body in the Canberra section of the Murrumbidgee River just last month. According to data from Royal Life Saving Australia, this drowning marked the nation's 32nd drowning death since December 1st, the start of the summer season, and the first in the ACT. Australia Day, a national public holiday, is unfortunately known to be one of the most dangerous days of the year for drowning incidents. Statistics also indicate that public holidays, school holidays, and weekends see a higher number of drowning occurrences. Experts attribute this rise, in part, to alcohol consumption. Some argue that a new safety approach is urgently needed to prevent further tragedies on waterways
