A desperate search is underway for a 15-year-old boy who was swept off rocks at North Avoca Beach on Christmas Eve. Luca Bennet's friends managed to get to safety, but Luca remains missing. Rescuers continue their efforts despite challenging conditions.

Rescuers have continued their search for a 15-year-old boy swept off the rocks at a popular New South Wales Central Coast beach on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services were called to North Avoca Beach about 3pm, where they commenced a sea and air search for a 15-year-old boy who had been swept off a rock shelf. Authorities were forced to pause the search in the evening, due to fading light and rough seas, recommencing their efforts on Christmas morning.

The 15-year-old was playing with his friends on the rocks when a wave hit the group and swept them into the water. A multi-agency search continued on Christmas Day, including Brisbane Water Police District, the Marine Area Command, NSW Ambulance, Surf Life Saving NSW, Marine Rescue NSW and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. Divers were in the water near the rocks, while emergency services also mounted jet skis to search the area. The teenager frequented North Avoca Beach, often posting photos of himself exploring the rock shelf. Brisbane Water Police District officer, Inspector Ben Campbell, said Luca’s friends managed to pull themselves out of the water. “Two of the 15-year-olds have been able to get out of the water but a third hasn’t been able to. His two friends raised the alarm with nearby lifeguards… but they have been unable to rescue the boy,” Insp Campbell said, according to the Daily Telegraph. The 15-year-old who went missing off the coast of North Avoca on Christmas Eve has been identified as Scots student Luca Bennet
