Seattle City Attorney Ann Davison announced Tuesday the launch of a new initiative meant to identify individuals responsible for repeat criminal activity throughout the city and reduce their public safety impacts.

The High Utilizer Initiative would identify these repeat offenders and ensure that they have access to social safety programs by prioritizing cases and working with public safety partners and service providers.

“I am committed to rebuilding our City’s accountability system,” Davison said. “Through our High Utilizer Initiative, we will directly address the individuals who create a disproportionate impact on public safety in Seattle. I will coordinate closely with the Seattle Police Department, the King County Prosecutor’s Office, and the King County Jail to disrupt the cycle of crime for these individuals.

The High Utilizer Initiative has already identified 118 people who have been responsible for more than 2,400 criminal cases over the past five years. Each of those people has at least 12 referrals from the Seattle Police Department to the City Attorney’s Office in the past five years, and at least one in the past eight months.
