A week after the BBC California docked in Western Australia with COVID-infected crew, another ship en route to the state has alerted authorities about sick personnel on board.
Another vessel is on its way to Western Australia with crew members suspected to be infected with COVID-19.The ship was expected to drop anchor off Fremantle on MondayAlmost a week after the BBC California docked in the state with 10 infected crew members on board, Premier Mark McGowan said the Darya Krishna alerted authorities that four of its 20 crew members were unwell with respiratory disease symptoms.
"Our preference with these sorts of things is that the ship leaves as soon as possible to reduce the risk and set the right example because we don't want the ships coming with infected crew members," he said. "Obviously, that's not entirely within our control because there are Commonwealth authorities involved here, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority's involved in these things and they're generally of the view the ship should come in."
One crew member was believed to be particularly unwell and may be taken from the ship by helicopter on Monday.Mr McGowan said the situation in Indonesia, where the ship had sailed from, was "terribly traumatic"."I don't want risk, I don't think West Australians want risk, we want to reduce risk of COVID spreading as much as possible," he said."It's terribly traumatic in Indonesia at the moment," Mr McGowan said.
