First PersonDebt adviser Lynsey Muff Lynsey Muff knows from personal experience that it’s “incredibly stressful” to be in debt. Now the 44 year-old, works for debt advice charity, StepChange to support others. “There is help out there,” she tells Nick Duerden.

. This rises to 83 per cent in those families who are currently in arrears with their household bills – and almost half of UK households are struggling with their bills right now. What we do is look at ways clients can reduce their costs. If they’re in massive amounts of debt, then we help with a management plan, or a repayment plan, or we might look at a Debt Relief Order, or Individual Voluntary Arrangement bankruptcy; anything that might help take the worry and anxiety away from them. When we start working with a client, they are permitted 60 days while we look into their options.
