Auburn fans celebrated the win over UMass with college football's most famous traditions.
One of college football’s most famous traditions came anew in again after Auburn’s 59-14 win over UMass Saturday.Auburn had to plant new trees after Alabama Crimson Tide fan Harvey Updike poisoned the trees in 2011. Auburn had to remove the trees in 2013. In 2016, one of the trees was set on fire and forced Auburn to replant new trees in 2017.
Since then, there have been signs around the base of the trees telling fans not to toss toilet paper on them. The trees weren’t ready yet. But in early August, Auburn announced it was finally safe again. Saturday’s win over UMass marked the first return to the famous oaks after a football win. The new trees were rolled for the first time in August when Auburn golfer Megan Schofill won the U.S. Women’s Amateur championship.
Check out the pictures below from the scene at the intersection of College Street and Magnolia Avenue. Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze and Athletic Director John Cohen joined the party. It was the first Toomer’s roll for either of them since taking jobs at Auburn.
