This time last year, Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies and Aurora Nishevci were watching the Brit Awards on a laptop in Abigail’s kitchen, giddy with excitement at the prospect of joining the great and good of the British music industry at an after-party once the ceremony was over.
“We’d only just been signed and had been invited to the Universal after-party, which was so exciting to us as a new band,” say the girls, who together make up indie rock outfit The Last Dinner Party. Twelve months on, not only were they guests at the ceremony, they were there as winners of the 2024 Brits Rising Star Award.
Their look “isn’t really definable by one distinct word or trend”, insists the five-piece, all avid vintage and second-hand shoppers and keenly aware of their opportunity to set an example around conscious fashion. “There’s a temptation at the moment, especially online, to distil your style into one easy, marketable word – coquette, office siren, succubus, gorpcore – but this approach to fashion, which revolves around hyper-consumption and trend cycles just doesn’t interest us.
