Seeds to sow this weekend, and other jobs for your vegetable garden 🌱
Summer cabbages, calabrese, cauliflowers and kohlrabi should be sown indoors now for planting out in late spring. Other cabbage family plants should be sown in April, except for Brussels sprouts and kalettes, which should also be sown now as they need a longer growing season than autumn brassicas.
Watering in seedlings of Lettuce ‘Little Gem’ just pricked out into modules at Barnsdale Gardens, Rutland Seedlings of hardy crops raised in late winter or bought now – lettuces, for example – can be planted out. Keep them in their trays or pots as long as feasible, with regular liquid feeding, so they get reasonably large. This will help them to survive any slug grazing; diminutive plants can disappear overnight.
