Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie urges Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil to use parliamentary privilege to disclose the identity of the ex-politician accused of betraying Australia, following ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess's speech on foreign agents.

Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie has claimed Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil should "use parliamentary privilege " to reveal the name of the ex-politician accused of betraying Australia . In a bombshell speech on Wednesday night, ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess used the agency's annual threat assessment to foreign agents , even going as far as to suggest they attempted to recruit a prime minister's family member.

However, Mr Burgess declined to reveal details about the ex-politician, failing to name them or provide information about their political affiliation and what level of government they had served in. That has fuelled rampant speculation about their identity, as well as a debate over whether or not ASIO or the government should unmask the person accused of betraying the country
