Jim Molan, the Liberal Party senator for NSW and former major general in the Australian Army, has died after an almost two-year battle with cancer.
His family confirmed his death in a statement on Tuesday morning, stating he died peacefully with his family surrounding him. He leaves behind his wife Anne and four children.After a 40-year career in the Army, Molan entered the senate in 2017. He ran in an unwinnable position in the 2016 election and was appointed to the Senate in 2018 after Nationals politician Fiona Nash was disqualified due to her dual British citizenship.
At the 2019 election, he was pre-selected in fourth position and again failed to win. But later that year he was picked to serve the remainder of Arthur Sinodinos’ term, which expires in 2022.In 2004, the veteran was deployed for a year to Iraq to serve as Chief of Operations for the new Headquarters Multinational Force in Iraq.
