The Greens have joined the fight to keep sports free for Australians, drawing an amendment to the Government’s anti-siphoning legislation that would tie digital rights to aerial rights. Current anti-siphoning provisions prohibit paid broadcasters from acquiring the rights of sports on the Government’s anti-siphoning list unless a free-to-air broadcaster also has the rights. Sports on the anti-siphoning list include the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Melbourne Cup, AFL and Australian Open.
