plans on taking full advantage. Young recently spoke exclusively with the Senior Bowl and Draft Network to discuss his motivation for accepting his invitation to compete in Mobile, Alabama.
Byron Young: I was in our meeting room with our entire defensive line. It was a meeting with our assistant coaches, not the position coach. So our assistant coach walked in [the room] and started by peeking his head into the room . He just walked in, handed me the box, and congratulated me. Byron Young: I’m excited to showcase the kind of guy I am. I can check a lot of boxes throughout the interview and on-field process. I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing. I’m excited for NFL decision-makers to observe me in person. They’re going to see me up close and personal. They’re going to find out what I’m working with. I can help myself by putting my pre-draft stock in a better position.
JM: We love that. We’ve seen that on tape. Are there any players in particular that you’re looking forward to competing with and against at The Senior Bowl?out there. I’m going to war with a few of my brothers one last time. Going to the Senior Bowl is a huge accomplishment for all of us. I’m excited to share this achievement with some of my brothers. We’re going to have a lot of fun. I can’t wait to compete.Byron Young: It was great. You grow a lot when going through the JUCO process.
A 9-to-5, Monday-Friday grind. It’s totally different from football. A lot of people have this idea of athletes in their mind and working at Dollar General allowed me to see it from both perspectives. It taught me a ton about hard work. It showed me what it’s like to work in the real world. I appreciated my experience at Dollar General.Byron Young: The Senior Bowl is going to give me a terrific opportunity to showcase my pass-rushing abilities.
