A senior constable in NSW Police who used a taser on a 95-year-old dementia patient, leading to her death, has been fired from the force. Police Commissioner Karen Webb stated the officer's unsuitability for continuing as a police officer.
A senior constable who fatally tasered a 95-year-old dementia patient in an aged care home has been fired from NSW Police , with the state’s top cop saying: “I do not have confidence in the officer’s suitability.” Kristian James Samuel White discharged his stun gun at Clare Nowland in a treatment room at Yallambee Lodge nursing home in the southern NSW town of Cooma during the early hours of May 17, 2023. The great-grandmother hit her head as she fell and died in hospital a week later.
“Accordingly, I have removed him from the NSW Police Force and he has been advised via his legal counsel. “I have spoken with the family of the 95-year-old victim involved in this matter and advised them of my decision.” Police and paramedics were called to Nowland’s nursing home after the great-grandmother grabbed two steak knives from a kitchen and brandished them at residents and staff before throwing one at a carer.
