He returned to the yard on January 11 last year and made off with another battery from a vehicle.

On each occasion after the theft was discovered, the business owner reviewed his CCTV and this showed Brown in the yard in the early hours of the morning. During the first raid he could be seen loading up a vehicle with batteries and tools.Mrs Cole told the court: "He was seen on CCTV breaking into a fruit machine at 4.30am. He stole £250 in cash.Brown was the subject of four bail orders when he broke into a house in Smyllum Park, Lanark, on May 4 last year.

The court heard that stolen items, including the watches, were recovered when police officers searched Brown's home. Defence solicitor Archie Hill said his client has a record for crimes of dishonesty, but added: "There are gaps in his offending when he takes himself away from using drugs.Sheriff Paul Haran told Brown: "Standing the natures of these charges and your record of similar offending, I'm satisfied there is no alternative to a custodial sentence."The sentence was backdated to June 19 last year as he has been in custody since then.
