Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison swore himself into Finance Minister Mathias Cormann’s job as a “backup” during COVID and did not tell his minister, Sky News has learned.

Sky News understands the PM considers Mr Morrison’s actions a serious breach of the Westminster system of government.

A new book “Plagued” by The Australian’s Simon Benson and Geoff Chambers documents the moves for Morrison to sign himself in as health and finance minister during the pandemic. “I trust you mate but I’m swearing myself in as health minister too,” Mr Morrison is reported to have told Mr Hunt.
