The NSWRL has banned a fan for a whopping 20 years after he abused former NRL star Andrew Fifita. Fifita — a Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks premiership player who retired from the NRL at the end of 2022 — is now captain-coach of the Woy Woy Roosters in the Rugby League Central Coast competition. Fifita and his team have been at the centre of a series of racial incidents which has incited crowd violence at games, creating tension throughout the league and forcing some teams to boycott Woy Woy games.
“NSWRL chief executive David Trodden said the racial vilification received by True Blue and Woy Woy coach Andrew Fifita was disgusting,” the statement said. “The NSWRL treats such matters very seriously which is reflected in the fact the person responsible has received a 20-year suspension.
