A dangerous storm is expected to bring heavy rain and flash flooding to parts of southeast Queensland. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several regions, urging residents to seek shelter and take precautions.
A very dangerous storm is set to hit parts of southeast Queensland on Wednesday afternoon, with heavy rainfall and flash-flooding in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for residents in parts of Brisbane City, Somerset, South Burnett, Moreton Bay, Western Downs and Toowoomba.
A heavy thunderstorm likely to produce intense rainfall that could lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash-flooding was detected near Albany Creek and Lake Samsonvale about 3.30pm local time. \“Other severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash-flooding were detected near the area southwest of Kingaroy,” the Bureau said. \A total of 67mm of rain was recorded at Moodlu over a one-hour period about 1pm, while 56mm of rainfall was recorded at Toowoomba over an hour about 2pm. Residents in southeast Queensland have been urged to go inside a strong building and wait until the storm has passed. They should park their cars away from trees and ensure their mobile phones and any power banks are fully charged. The Bureau has also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts
