The San Francisco Bay Area baked in a searing heat wave Thursday afternoon. How high did the mercury go?
The first half of the month of April, it’s not uncommon for there to be a warm event. It’s uncommon, but it’s not rare.
“If you start going up to higher levels in the atmosphere, the temperatures are much cooler at this time of year than they would be in the summertime,” Blier explained. “In April, we’re limited by how warm the temperatures can get due to the atmosphere above us. The temperatures above us are about as warm as we see them for early April, but they’re still lower than what we’d see in June.”
Cooling is expected on Friday with temperatures up to 10 degrees lower than they were on Thursday, the weather service said. The cooling trend will continue through the weekend with a slight chance of rain in the forecast Monday and Tuesday.
