Longoria, who had surgery on his right index finger last month, is hopeful that he’ll be at ‘full speed’ by next week.
SAN FRANCISCO — Evan Longoria’s viewpoint of the Giants’ 8-3 road trip would have been from his couch in Scottsdale, where he has continued to rehab the finger he had surgically repaired last month, if he could bear the experience of watching games on television. So, after the last week and half of checking box scores and texting teammates, Longoria put on a particularly happy face inside the clubhouse Tuesday afternoon before the Giants opened the Bay Bridge series with the A’s.
Longoria, who is four weeks removed from his operation, said he is hopeful that he could be ready to begin a rehab assignment by the end of next week, putting him right on track for the 4-6 week timeline laid out after the procedure. “I’m pretty optimistic that within a week’s time, I’ll be able to play somewhere, or at least be full speed at everything,” Longoria said. “Even if I’m not playing in an actual game, be comfortable enough to be taking a live BP, or doing everything at full speed.”Before the game Tuesday, Longoria was taking ground balls at third base and using his surgically repaired right hand to make throws, a noticeable improvement from where he was before the Giants hit the road .
Evan Longoria goes through fielding drills at 3B. Last time we were here, he wasn’t yet using his surgically repaired right hand. He’s been throwing up to 60 feet.
