Gabe Kapler was late arriving to the Mexico City stadium Friday after a mix-up on public transit.

MEXICO CITY — Gabe Kapler had himself an adventure on his first day in Mexico’s sprawling capital. The Giants’ foodie manager, of course, indulged in a plate of tacos. He took a walk to a local coffee shop. Then, always a man of the people, he hopped on the subway to visit the ballpark for the first time.Or, more accurately, about six or seven stops before he was supposed to exit the train.

And Kapler was late because that herd of humble commuters did not lead him to the ballpark, or an exit from the train station. “As we’re starting to learn here in Mexico City, the traffic is pretty dense,” Kapler said, drawing laughs. “From what I’m learning, if you can get into a train, that’s the move. Or be on foot, that’s the move.”

Enter Giants PR man Matt Chisholm, who suggested the manager take a look outside before taking the stage. “It made for a long day yesterday,” said Cobb, who is scheduled to start Sunday. “So that with the altitude has probably taken a little bit of a toll on everybody.”
