Venture capitalist David Sacks — a longtime friend of Musk’s and a member of Musk’s Twitter inner circle — speculated on “The All-In Podcast,” which he co-hosts, that the circumstances of Lee’s death were similar to the 2022 death of Brianna Kupfer. Kupfer was stabbed to death in broad daylight in a random attack at a luxury furniture store in Los Angeles.
“I didn’t think that I’d said anything particularly controversial,” Benedicto told SFGATE in an interview. “Like I said, I was just saying that you should be patient and let the investigation run its course and people’s quick attempts to connect it to, whether it’s homelessness without any evidence or whether it’s drugs without any evidence, was just premature.”
Nonetheless, Benedicto quickly became a target of people who fervently — and as we know now, wrongly — believed Lee’s death to be a random violent act that showed everything wrong with San Francisco.
