Robbie Cooke left last month after NSW officials made it clear they did not think he was moving fast enough to fix governance and cultural issues at the group.

Former Star Entertainment chief executive Robbie Cooke has told an inquiry he felt the gaming group was “under assault” from the regulator, a view he formed after he was told the government-appointed manager was meeting with law firms this year.

“We are meeting Monday to get ready for war though,” Mr Foster allegedly wrote to Mr Cooke, referring to a separate, private meeting that Mr Weeks was scheduled to attend.Mr Cooke told the inquiry he was on “high alert” and he had a sense of being “a little under assault” when he saw a meeting scheduled between law firms and Mr Weeks.

Mr Foster conceded on Tuesday that the company was not suitable to operate a casino in Sydney, and there was “not a scenario” where it would be able to run it unsupervised.Mr Foster, appearing before the inquiry, also admitted he was “trigger-happy” when he told Mr Cooke that the state’s regulator should be scrapped and Mr Weeks removed.

Mr Cooke spent most of Wednesday morning rejecting claims made by his former senior leadership team, specifically Star’s former chief financial officer, Christina Katsibouba, and former chief legal officer, Betty Ivanoff.
