City Council's unanimous passage of the "Framework for a Fair and Just Shaker" drew a round of applause and even a standing ovation from advocates for community-driven policing reforms on Aug. 28.SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- City Council adopted a community-driven “Framework for a Safe and Just Shaker” initiative on Monday that will keep a more sweeping set of proposed charter amendments aimed at policing reforms off the November ballot.

Officials further noted that the proposed charter amendments would now be withdrawn from the November ballot.“Framework for Maintaining a Safe and Just Shaker” calls for, among other things: -- The online posting of public records for Shaker Heights police to make access easier for the public, including data by demographic and other metrics

“Shaker Heights is committed to its efforts to combat this problem by continuing to work toward safe, equitable, transparent, and accountable policing, to avoid biased or discriminatory policing, and to strive to achieve a just city for all persons who live, work and visit the city.

-- “Being one of the only cities in America with multiple members to form a ‘24-hour, seven-day-a-week’ crisis intervention team” “The policy we pass today will ensure that police officers in Shaker are not unfairly tasked with the job of a social worker, and that residents, on your worst day when you are forced to call 911, will get the best response possible.
