Gov. Josh Shapiro posted a video on Twitter to encourage Pennsylvanians to exercise caution when starting fires, noting the state is right now in its most dangerous period for wildfire.

Wildfires in the past seven days have burned more than 5,000 acres in Pennsylvania, prompting Gov. According to the state Department of Conservation, there were 151 wildfires over the past week, includingthat burned 4,376 acres of private land, Pinchot State Forest and State Game Lands 119. Other tips the department’s Bureau of Forestry offer to prevent wildfires include making sure to clear the area before starting a fire; keep the fire small; and make sure there is a ready source of water and a rake nearby to extinguish any embers that escape. In his video, Shapiro urges Pennsylvanians to be mindful of their responsibility to do their part to prevent wildfires. He concludes by walking into the governor’s office and seeing Smokey standing by the historic fireplace in there, Shapiro said to the iconic former U.S. Forest Service mascot: “Don’t worry I’m not going to light any fires in here.
