Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles says there was a sense of “shared mission” between Australia and the United States on defence capabilities during his meeting with US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin.
He said the global rules-based order is “under pressure” in Eastern Europe and the Indo-Pacific and expressed the need to build Australia’s defence capability.
“There was a real sense of shared mission with the United States about what we both face and about the need for Australia to develop these capabilities,” he told Sky News Australia.
